A Day Without Sugar = A Day In Hell

tumblr_mui03fderd1qdbh3lo1_500

I am resolved to go one day without sugar!

Why?

Because I’m morbidly curious if I can do it. And then I want to see how long I can go. Because I’m mean to myself like that.

In all seriousness, though,  I have a really bad sweet tooth and I really need to make a conscious effort to eat better. Diabetes runs in my family and I am NOT fittin to make that a part of my life. No. No. Nooo!

So today, will be Day 1.

It was supposed to be yesterday, but on my way into work I did a Starbucks mobile order for a Frappuccino and didn’t remember until after I’d already had half of it that I was supposed to not have sugar. Whoops.

That makes today Hell Day. I literally don’t know what to do with myself. What do I do for breakfast? How can I start my morning without coffee? Coffee without sugar is the worst. Bleck.

Let’s see how long I survive the day.

You Like Me, You Really Like Me!

justin-timberlake-taylor-swift-amas-surprise-face

It must be award season all around because Nonsense & Books has been nominated for a blogger award!

Ok, so I’m not actually 100% clear on what I was exactly nominated for (I believe it’s for this post) but, hey, I’ll take what I can get!

Big thanks to The Lonely Tribalist for the nomination! It’s a pretty bad-ass way to start the week – my life is sooo exciting…

The nomination came with a Quid Pro Quo of sorts, so in the vein of paying things forward, I would also like to nominate the following:

Am I Thirty  for Eight Other Christmas Songs That Are Super Offensive

and

Highest Form of Whit for Dear Santa

I told y’all, I need more blogs to follow!! Check out Moose and Michelle’s original post for the “rules” for the awards and spread the love around some more!

From: Awards Post: Well, Aren’t We Just a Snuggly Ball of Sunshine? (Wait, Don’t Actually Try to Snuggle a Ball of Literal Sunshine)

Here are the “rules”:

Thank the person/people who nominated you
Answer the questions from your nominator(s)
Nominate other bloggers and give them  11 questions to answer
Inform your nominees with a pingback and/or by dropping a comment on their blog!
As always, if nominated, you are by no means obligated to participate. Just know that it means Moose and I have enjoyed reading your blog! And you can pick any or all three of the awards to take – it’s all the same to us. Now, let’s get this thing rolling.

My 11 questions (anyone can answer these in the comments, as well):

If I were to tell you I’d give you $1 million for drinking an entire bottle of sriracha, what would you do?
Team Michael Scott or Team Ron F*cking Swanson?
What’s the worst part about blogging?
What was the last thing you ate (and can you get me some)?
Where was your first kiss? (Or where would you like your first kiss? Come on, mama likes detail.)
Where would you rather be right now, if time, responsibilities, or money weren’t issues?
Three wishes: What would you like?
What is one thing about your country you wish you could change?
What’s something you wanted to be when you were a kid?
Where do you see yourself a year from now?

Random Rant || Somebody – Please Give Leo A Damn Oscar

ed319e7938df068a69a0cd7802d045f0

I know Oscar nominations haven’t been announced yet but, can we, as a collective group, just give Leonardo DiCaprio the damn thing now?! For serious, you guys!

I have not yet seen The Revenant, but it’s on my list. I have, however, seen every other movie that Leo has been Oscar nominated for and let me tell you, the man DESERVES it!

It’s kind of mind boggling that at this stage in the game, he doesn’t have one yet! Cate Blanchett has 2 already!! Am I comparing apples to oranges?! I think not.

Jennifer Lawrence, who has only been on the scene for like 5 years, has an Oscar. Yes, she’s adorable in that uber real, unfiltered, what-is-she-going-to-say-next kind of way, but this is LEONARDO DICAPRIO! A man who has proven to the world time and time again that he can and will deliver a stellar performance in anything he does.

When was the last time he had a flop? 2008 with Body of Lies. Since then, basically cinema gold! Even The Great Gatsby (which received pretty mixed reviews) made over $100k at the box office!

I realize that the Oscars are rigged. It’s nothing more than a Hollywood popularity contest and crap, but let us make one thing crystal clear. Leonardo DiCaprio deserves an Oscar.

Our Shared Shelf | Emma Watson’s New Book Club

emmawatsontime100galatime100mostinfluentialquxehcjxl-hl

I don’t normally buy into celebrity lifestyle trends – Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, Blake Lively’s failed Preserve, etc. –  but I have to admit that I was kind of excited to hear about Emma Watson’s new feminist book club, Our Shared Shelf. If you’re at all interested, you can click the link and join yourself over at Goodreads.

Full disclosure, the word ‘feminist’ slightly throws me off. Like, are they going to be only reading highly pro-girl power books? That’s not to say that I’m against those books. I’m not. But I don’t want to only read those kind of books.

In any case, I joined the book club and I’m kind of excited to see what it’s all about. I really admire Emma Watson. Not just because I’m a huge Harry Potter nerd (because I am), but for everything she’s been doing with her #HeForShe campaign and her work with the UN. Finally, a young starlet, worth looking up to. It was touch and go there for a while with the Paris Hilton’s and Nicole Ritchie’s and Kim Kardashians.. (sigh) but I digress.

I’ll let you know how things turn out, or you can find out for yourself! 😉

Nonsense & Books 2016 Reading Resolutions

PicMonkey Collage

Hooray for the New Year and with it, a new set of reading resolutions!

I had set the bar fairly low for myself for 2015 – 20 books – and managed to make it through 17. I’m hoping to fair a little better this year, setting  my Goodreads Reading Challenge Goal at 30. Not an overly ambitious goal, I think, but hopefully an attainable one!

So, what am I reading this year?

I’m glad you asked and I’m even more glad to share my list of hopefuls! I just recently started reading The Nature of the Beast by Louise Penny and am completely enthralled. Full disclosure, it’s the latest book (#11) in the ‘Inspector Gamache’ series, but in my defense I didn’t know that when I started reading. I think it’s safe to say the other 10 in the series will be added to my never ending list of ‘To Read’ books (they are not, however in the list below).

In no particular order and definitely subject to change, here is my 2016 Reading List:

A Darker Shade final for IreneA Darker Shade of Magic | V.E. Schwab

Kell is one of the last Travelers—rare magicians who choose a parallel universe to visit. Grey London is dirty, boring, lacks magic, ruled by mad King George. Red London is where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. White London is ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. People fight to control magic, and the magic fights back, draining the city to its very bones. Once there was Black London—but no one speaks of that now.
